Brazil, China ink pork offal export protocol, 16 firms approved

On Saturday, September 26, André de Paula, Brazil’s Minister of Agriculture, and Zhu Qingqiao, Chinese Ambassador to Brazil, signed a sanitary protocol authorizing Brazil to export pork offal products including pork liver, pork heart and pork esophagus to China. Brazil had previously been approved to export external pork cuts such as pork ears, pork tails and pork snouts to China, and this expansion adds internal offal to the access list.
Preliminary technical negotiations for the protocol were completed during a visit to China by a Brazilian agricultural delegation in May this year, with the signing marking its official implementation.
Previously, only the state of Santa Catarina, which has long maintained a foot-and-mouth disease-free status with vaccination, was permitted to export external pork offal to China. Starting in June 2026, Rio Grande do Sul and Paraná were granted authorization successively. Following this expansion, offal exports will cover 16 plants across the three states.
