Canada Resumes Beef Exports to China

Following the trade agreement reached by China and Canada last week, Canadian beef has regained access to the Chinese export market. The agreement stipulates that China will reduce retaliatory tariffs on certain Canadian agricultural products, in exchange for Canada slashing tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles.
China’s General Administration of Customs (GAC) has reinstated import access permits for 20 Canadian registered beef processing plants. The registration status of these 20 enterprises has been updated to "Valid" on the official GAC website.
Under the terms of the agreement, China will recognize the beef safety assessment reports and sanitary certificates issued by Canada. Canada took the initiative to suspend beef exports to China in 2021 after a single case of atypical bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) was reported in the country.
