Four More Countries Announce Lifting of Restrictions on Imports of Brazilian Chicken; Pakistan Surpasses Others to Top China's Import Market for Cooked Beef

South Korea, Angola, and Qatar have lifted their national embargoes; Japan has lifted restrictions related to the city of Montenegro in Rio Grande do Sul, while destinations such as China and the European Union continue to maintain a comprehensive embargo on Brazilian poultry meat across the country.

South Korea, Angola, and Qatar have lifted the temporary restrictions imposed on imports of Brazilian poultry meat following the avian influenza outbreak in May in the city of Montenegro (RS) in Rio Grande do Sul.

According to information from Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply, Japan has also notified the lifting of restrictions related to the city of Montenegro but continues to maintain restrictions on the city of Campinápolis (CE) in Ceará and the city of Santo Antônio da Barra (GO) in Goiás.

Some export destinations still maintain a full embargo on Brazilian poultry meat nationwide: Canada, Chile, China, North Macedonia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Timor-Leste, and the European Union.

In the first six months of 2025, Pakistan ranked first among China's sources of imported cooked beef. According to data from the General Administration of Customs, imports from Pakistan reached $5.24 million from January to June, an increase of 54% compared to the same period last year. The supply volume increased to 1,030.6 tons, allowing Pakistan to surpass its closest competitor: Mongolia exported only $3 million worth of products during the same period.

China opened its market to heat-processed beef from Pakistan in June 2023. One of the key exporters is The Organic Meat Company. Chinese media have noted that halal meat from Pakistan is increasingly popular among local consumers, which may have become a driving force behind the exports.

Thus, just two years after gaining market access, Pakistani enterprises have not only established a firm foothold in the Chinese market but also become leaders in the supply of cooked beef, increasing competitive pressure on traditional participants in the Chinese market.
