Since 2017, Chinese market started to grow huge demand for Vietnamese Basa fish for its boneless meat and tasty texture. But Cov-19 posed grave challenges for Vietnamese Basa fish in terms of strict-than-ever Custom clearance regulations and skyrocketing cost related to logistics. According to VASEP, the market revenue of Vietnamese Basa fish in China dropped to 44 million USD, while in April it was as high as 113 million USD. The gap in the market gives Chinese domestic Basa fish producers opportunity to tap, especially in the pre-made meals sector.
