China will become the world’s biggest chicken importing country in 10 years

According to statistics released by relevant agricultural institution, by 2031 chicken consumption increase among developing countries (20.8% increase) will far exceed that of developed countries (8.5% increase). In particular, developing countries with faster population growth and emerging economies (such as some African countries) will play a pivotal role in boosting chicken consumption growth. In addition, this institution also foresees by 2031 the total import volume of chicken among major importing countries will amount to 15.8 million MT, with a 20.3% increase compared with 2021 (26 million MT). Importing markets in Asia, Latin America, North Africa and the Middle East will enjoy sound outlook in the future. The report also noted that with China’s chicken consumption gradually surpass its domestic production, China will become the world’s biggest chicken importing country, with an estimated yearly importing volume reaching 1.2 million MT increased by 30.9% compared to 2021.
